Shimla is the capital of Himachal Pradesh and a popular hill station among Indian families and honeymooners. Shimla is situated at an altitude of 2200 m and was the summer capital of British India. Shimla retains its old world charm with its beautiful colonial architecture, pedestrian friendly Mall Road and numerous shops, cafes and restaurants on the ridge. Shimla is well connected to many cities and is only 4 hours away from the nearby city of Chandigarh. The city also has an airport, though there are not many daily flights from here. The railway station connects Shimla with the plans and is famous for the Kalka-Shimla train route, which is a World Heritage Site at UNESCO.
The weather is pleasant in most months and tourists flock here, especially in the summer months. Winters are cold with some snow days from mid-December to late February.

Shimla and the nearby towns of Kufri, a hill station almost always covered in snow, and Chail, famous for a huge palace and the world's highest cricket ground, are often covered. Tourists also visit the famous Jakhu Temple on their trip to Shimla and go sightseeing at various viewpoints.
